Car Care Tips

Barberton Auto Magic has the expertise and the ability to serve your automotive needs, no matter what they may be. At Barberton Auto Magic we truly believe in the value of preventative maintenance to keep your vehicle on the road and out of the repair shop. In between your scheduled tune ups and maintenance visits at Barberton Auto Magic, here are a few car care tips that you can follow:

  1. It’s highly recommended to have the oil changed in your vehicle at least every 3,000 miles for regular oil and every 5,000 miles for synthetic oil. If the vehicle is not driven often, then don’t base the schedule on mileage, try to change the oil at least every 3 to 6 months.
  2. Check your oil level while your vehicle is parked on a flat surface. If more oil needs to be added be careful not to overfill. Over filling the reservoir with oil can cause damage to the engine.
  3. Brake pads and other components of your car’s braking system need to be maintained for better safety and control of your vehicle. Better safe than sorry! How often you need to replace brake pads or other components depends on driving conditions and driving habits. Unusual noises, vibrations or tension when applying the brakes can be a sign that they need replacing.
  4. Change your air filter every year or every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. A clean air filter helps to improve gas mileage and reduce emissions.
  5. Replace your vehicle’s fuel filter at least once a year to prevent dirt and debris from clogging the fuel line.
  6. Windshield wipers should be replaced every 6 to 12 months, or sooner if the rubber becomes worn. Not only are worn out wipers unsafe when driving because they do not keep a windshield clear for driving, but a worn wiper blade can also cause damage to the window, scratching the glass with the wiper’s metal when the rubber is worn away.
  7. People are pulled over pretty frequently for having a brake light or tail light burnt out. Try to check whether or not your lights are working by having a friend walk around your car while it is turned on and parked. Test all the necessities like headlights, brake and tail lights, turn signals, etc. Because these bulbs can be tricky to replace, feel free to ask your mechanic to do the job.
  8. Keep your key ring light. Now, there’s nothing wrong with a few key chains here and there, but if your key chain is heavy, weighed down by a number of keys and trinkets it’s a good idea to lighten the load. A heavy key ring can cause damage to the ignition switch by causing the tumblers inside the ignition to become worn out due to the weight and bouncing of the key ring while driving.
  9. Let your vehicle warm up for at least a minute, no matter the season. During the summer or winter, it doesn’t matter the time of year, a driver should always allow their vehicle adequate time to run and adjust to the outside temperature before putting it into gear and heading down the road. This allows the fluids and lubricants a chance to be distributed through the vehicles components and parts, causing less wear and tear over all.
  10. The biggest and best tip we can give you is to bring your car or truck into Barberton Auto Magic for any repair or maintenance your automobile may need. Forget the stress; leave your car repairs to the best at Barberton Auto Magic.
